Holeta Polytechnic College

Holeta Polytechnic College (HPTC) is one of the government-owned Colleges established in 1975 in Oromia Regional State and operating under the Oromia TVET Bureau. It is particularly well located in the center of the country at a distance of 30km from Addis Ababa on the West. The College owns 40ha of land that will also be used for the planned mega expansion. The College is working to become Center of Excellence in Agro-processing in the East Africa that produces skilled and employable work force by delivering market-oriented and gender sensitive quality training through acquiring and adapting modern technologies that meets Ethiopia Occupational Standard (EOS). That is through student-centered and practical-oriented education and training in the agricultural occupation in order to produce self-reliant citizens as per Ethiopian TVET strategy of 2008 which focus on introduced occupational standards and outcome-based curriculum to ensure relevance of the TVET for the economy and social development. Holeta Polytechnic College is planning to establish a Center of Excellence in Agro-Processing (CEAP) through the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP) funded by the World Bank (WB). The overall objective of the proposed CEAP at Holeta Polytechnic College is to deliver quality outcome-based training and to supply competent, motivated and innovative middle and low-level workforce equipped with the necessary technological skills that would ensure the implementation of an agriculture-led industrial economy of Ethiopia. EASTRIP aspires to strengthen 16 Regional TVET flagship institutes which are selected from three East African countries, namely Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania out of which 7 are found in Ethiopia. Holeta Polytechnic College is one, among selected colleges. The project aims to increase access, improve quality of technical and vocational educational training and facilitate East African regional integration. The main components of the project are:  Strengthening governance and management of the Centre;  Institutionalizing industry linkages;  Developing market relevant and competency-based training programs;  Training of school managers and teachers;  Upgrading key training facilities and equipment;  Outreach and support for non-project national TVET institutions; and  Provide teachers in-service, farmers and youth training. Holeta Polytechnic College is currently providing training in the agricultural sector (Crop Production, Animal Production, Animal Health and Natural Resources) from level I to V; in the industrial development sector (GMFA) from Level I to II; and in the Economic Infrastructure sector (ICT) from level I to IV based on the market need and assessment results. Recently, the College has been selected as one of the satellite campuses to train future TVET trainers at Bachelor of Science (BSc) level in two fields (Dairy and Fruits and Vegetables processing technology) in collaboration with the Federal TVET Institute. The aim is to develop skilled technical education teachers that will train technicians for industries and companies working on Agro-processing in the country. These are new programmes which need special attention in order to be successful.

The Mission of the Centre of excellence in agro processing is to become a well-equipped international training center that serves the needs of stakeholders in the Agro-processing industry by 2024.

The Vision of the Holeta Polytechnic College is to be a Center of Excellence in Agro-processing in the East Africa that produces as skilled and employable work force through acquiring and adapting modern technologies.
